ESA Easterns Surfing Championships through Saturday at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.

Things started slowly for the ESA Easterns Surfing Championships with flat surf and no waves to ride on Sunday followed by howling onshore winds and a lot of chop on Monday.- By Kip Tabb

But by Tuesday the winds had died down and the surf was back to the stuff that created the Outer Banks reputation.

The adults finished up on Wednesday, and the kids took to the surf today with boys preliminary rounds today and semi-finals tomorrow. The girls take to the water tomorrow. All finals will be on Saturday.

In the Boys Division, Kitty Hawk native, Quentin Turko is headed to the semi-finals tomorrow. He had a great round of competition–came in second in his heat and really showed why he was representing the Outer Banks.

The schedule has the kids hitting the water at 7:00 a.m., so it’s an early start for a day filled with competition.
