Here’s the thumbnail description of Outer Banks outdoor activity: fishing is good and improving and the surf action . . . well, in a word: challenging.- Kip Tabb

I’ve seen bigger swells in the pond at my best friends farm when I was growing up and at least it didn’t have the chop and crosswind. Cross your fingers for better conditions this weekend. The wind will be shifting to the west which usually helps, but there’s not much churning up the ocean right now.

Fall fishing is in full swing, though, with reports of blues running, a couple of puppy drum being pulled in and reports of trout and sea mullet landings. Spot are also showing up on the end of local angler’s lines.

Kite boarders and Windsurfers . . . looks like some tough days ahead. We looked at a couple of weather forecast sites and there’s not much wind in the forecast until Monday—winds forecast to stay between 7-10mph until then. But, hey, forecasts have been wrong before, so there’s always hope.

Not a lot scheduled this weekend, although Wings Over Water is in full swing. Combines art, outdoor activities and is a great way to discover the wilderness side of the Outer Banks. Check it out if you get a chance.
